Tel Aviv Groove

Business of the Month: Tel Aviv Groove

Tel Aviv Culinary Entrepreneur, Orly Segal Brings Israeli Food Culture Extravaganzas to New York and L.A

Tel Aviv culinary fempreneur, Orly Segal, is the brainchild of the Tel Aviv Groove. This culinary bash brings together leading Tel Aviv chefs and sommeliers to collaborate and create with local colleagues. The culinary pop-ups, inspired by the Tel Aviv food scene, will take place this month, kicking off February 19-21 in New York and Los Angeles.

Beyond an Israeli tasting journey, these events feature tasting menus, concept dinners, and stylish workshops highlighting the latest Israeli cuisine, Tel Aviv music, contemporary art, and of course, the best Israeli wines and olive oils. This month, we had to feature this culinary extravaganza as Orly Segel has been one of the most notable food personalities in the country, bringing Israeli chefs to success by handling their public relations, book deals, and communications.

Orly explains, “ I had this dream to bring this Israeli dining vibe to my favorite cities to visit. I wanted to bring the intense and one-of-a-kind food scene to life globally and create opportunities to connect, create and dine! Every event has been sold out and the feedback has been incredible.”

The schedule:

New York

February 19th: To kick off the event, Meat Restaurant in Brooklyn Heights will host Chef Jonathan Sharvit – finalist of the “Chef Games” reality show, for a celebratory evening that will include an olive oil tasting, special dishes, wines, and more.

Simultaneously, Bambina Blue, a boutique ice cream café in Soho, will have an olive oil pop-up, with the exceptional Israel brand, Ptora. Offerings will include entrées, savory dishes, and sweet treats – including ice cream seasoned with olive oil, that will steal mouths and hearts.

February 20th: The pop-up’s second day will feature a workshop – that is open only for early bird registration – and will highlight a wide spectrum tasting of exquisite Israeli wines and olive oils, followed by a discussion about new Israeli Cuisine.

February 21st: The final day of the pop-up will feature two flagship dinners of the New York events: For the first, Chef Yossi Sherf will be hosted by Ched Assaf Maoz at the Cleveland 19 restaurant. At the second, Chef Jonathan Sharvit will be hosted by Chef Nadav Greenberg, at the Michelin nominated, Shmoné, for join-curations and a must-attend tasting experience.

The four-day Los Angeles pop-up schedule is as follows:

February 24th: Chef Jonathan Sharvit will be hosted by Chef Joshua Gil at the cool Michelin-starred Mirame Restaurant, where the two will fuse their influences to create memorable dishes featuring the flavors of Mexico, California, and Israel.

February 25th: On the second day of the event series, Chef Yoav Schverd of Nua in Beverly Hills will host Chef Daniel Shalit for an evening of Israeli specials, accompanied by a wine menu from Binyamina Winery and a whisky menu from the Israeli Milk & Honey Distillery.

February 26th: The third day of the Los Angeles pop-up will take place at Divino, Chef Goran Milic’s Brentwood restaurant, where Chef Daniel Shalit will be hosted for a joint creation of delightful specials where a wine menu will be accompanied by Binyamina Winery and a whisky menu from the Israeli Milk & Honey Distillery.

February 27th: On the event's final day, Chef Adir Cohen and Chef Liad Ichiye will host Chef Jonathan Sharvit for a meal at the kosher Next Door Restaurant and create an up-to-date Mediterranean dinner. There are a few more events to follow in L.A.
